Dress #217 Huck Weaving 2

This is from the other fabric that I embroidered back in the 50's. Frankly, it feels good to have used them. Should I have been more sentimental? I still have the memory of doing it, and that's enough.

Dress #216 Peach and Gray

This is another very soft knit that I'd intended to use for a wrap dress for me. Maybe next year? The fabric wrinkles easily, unusual for a knit.

Dress #215 Cherries

Summer cherries---I love the tart ones (and without sugar!) but a good friend thinks Rainier cherries are the best part of summer. And there are Bing cherries, too! This is some cotton I've had for a long time.

Dress #214 Ruched Waist

I tried a different silhouette for today's dress with a ruched waist and slight dolman sleeve. I like the look for either work or a dress up occasion. The fabric is an ITY knit that is intended for a summer top---in some future year.

Dress #213 Bikini

I fell in love with this Alexander Henry fabric with the minute I saw it years ago. It was tricky to get the colors right in a photo, reduce the scale, and print on another fabric. Thanks for the help, Jeff. Cotton fabric printed on inkjet printer.

Dress #212 Security Lining

We've been using many envelopes sorting papers, and preparing for departure. I recycled an envelope to use the attractive blue and white security lining.

Dress #211 Plastic Wrap

I don't recall why I have deep pink plastic wrap in the kitchen, but it looks better as a dress than it does covering the guacamole. Reynolds plastic wrap with some scrapbooking rhinestones.

Dress #210 White Linen

It is approaching the end of summer so we are making the last of the summer dresses. I just found this lovely white linen in my stash, and a simple sundress with a ribbon belt seemed quite enough.

Dress #209 Plaid on Top

A good dress for work as the seasons transition from summer to fall, the top is cotton and the skirt, a silk noil that has been around for a few years.

Dress #208 Banner

I see many banners and pennants made of either fabric or paper. This dress is cardstock and hemp yarn.

Dress #207 Polka

The red and white of the Polish flag, and a full skirt made for dancing. I can hear the accordions. All paper.

Dress #206 Flamingo Shrug

An outrageous floral print complete with pink flamingos for today's dress. The shrug gives my favorite silhouette a different look. This is made from a paper cocktail napkin, cardstock and a snippet of grosgrain ribbon.

Dress #205 Folds

While not true origami, this dress is mostly just folded from a summery motif paper napkin.

Dress #204 Celebrate

Our visa to stay for a year in Paris arrived today! So we'll be off to Paris soon, and staying for nearly a year. This dress is gift ribbon, and grosgrain ribbon for the belt.

Dress #203 Mockingjay Tribute

I blush to admit how enthralled I was with the Hunger Games triolgy. This weekend the DVD of the first book/movie is released, and while I'd never go so far as to buy it, it is at the top of our Netflix list. The pin is cut from a composite paper using the Cameo and is only about 1 cm in diameter. This little black dress in silk and poly chiffon, and would definitely put the odds ever in your favor.

Dress #202 Spooning

After manipulating a half dozen spoons into a dress, I like the bubbly skirt and the art deco top. I haven't advanced into metal working (yet) so these are just plastic spoons.

Dress #201 Checkup

Sitting at the dentist's office waiting for him to come in and say "all's well," I noticed that the paper bib was a nice "fabric." The dentist gave me a gold star for my checkup. Recycled paper, and dental floss.

Dress #200 Reverse Silk

The silk on this skirt is the reverse side of a scrap of tie silk. Silk tank top as well, in my favorite colors of black and tan.

Dress #199 Woven Yoke

Another favorite fabric---love the pattern, the colors, and the fabric itself. It's a very lightweight cotton voile. The yoke is woven of silk embroidery ribbons.

Dress #198 Mars and Stars

I've been absolutely spellbound by the images taken on Mars. Thank you, NASA, for once again making science fiction into science non-fiction. Red (for Mars) cotton, and iron-on stars.

Dress #197 Summer Gypsy

A colorful and fun dress for a Saturday night in August. Balloons and paper.

Friday, August 10, 2012

Dress #196 Structured Blue

This is a more structured look than I usually favor. The silk dupioni is quite cooperative even at this small scale.

Dress #195 Jenny Dress

This is named for a woman I saw wearing a similar dress. The style was so flattering, but difficult to capture without a photo. I might try again with another medium---this is a paper napkin.

Dress #194 Silk Octopus

A dress for dancing in the summer? The overlay (which looked like an octopus when I was constructing it) will swing and sway with every move. Made from some lovely silk georgette that I've had 10 years or so.

Dress #193 Eggshell Lace

Just as the name says, this is crushed eggshells on cardstock. The end result is a bit more impressionistic than the vision in my mind, but I like the look of the texture.

Dress #192 Sour Green

To combat the pink sweetness from yesterday, this dress is a sour green color. Another fabric from the stash with intricate straps at the yoke.

Dress #191 Too Sweet

This dress is too, too sweet. Made of sugar sheets from the cake decorating department, in pink and with flowers? Way too sweet. Makes my teeth hurt.

Saturday, August 4, 2012

Dress #190 Stripes and Roses

I liked the combination of the stripe and the rose print, so I did the godets in the contrast print.

Friday, August 3, 2012

Dress #189 Maura

Worn by Sasha Alexander's character on Rizzoli and Isles, I loved this elegant suit. Linen and scrapbooking brads.

Thursday, August 2, 2012

Dress #188 Cafe au Lait

Vintage ecru linen, and an Urban Threads embroidery design, with a mocha ribbon belt.

Dress #187 YSL Tribute

Today is the anniversary of the birth of Yves St. Laurent on August 1, 1936. I've missed seeing the YSL Retrospective in Paris and in Denver, but perhaps on its next exhibition--wherever that might be. His version: wool jersey. My version: paint chips, cardstock, and ribbon.
